With our programs first being established in 1987 and 1991, Transfer Camp (T-Camp) and Howdy Camp respectully, our organization has welcomed in countless transfer students to Texas A&M. Now named Aggie Transition Camps, we strive to successfully transition incoming students into the Aggie Family. Aggie Transition Camps encompasses two programs that allow transfers to experince camp no matter when they decide to attend Texas A&M. We have T-Camp before the fall semester in August and Howdy Camp before the spring semester in January. In the 3-day, 2-night extended orientation program at Trinity Pines in Trinity, Texas.
The role of a counselor is is to serve as a support system for the transfers. He or she leads a group of 8-10students called a Discussion Group and maintain connections with them throughout their first year and beyond! Counselors also perform informative and purposeful skits for the students to help them better understand life in Aggieland, A&M traditions, & campus services. Each semester our group of counselors dedicate their time and energy to help welcome in the transfer students to Texas A&M! Camp counselors must attend mandatory trainings throughout the spring semester and summer as well as attend mandatory continuity events after camp in order to further relationships with the students!
A few counselors share their reason for applying and passion that they have for this organization!
"Being a Counselor for ATC gave me the most amazing friend base I could have ever asked for. I joined to give back to this amazing university and because I have a passion for this organization, but it gave me so much more." Mitch Roberts
"My overall experience as a counselor was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I enjoyed every minute of it...As a counselor you will be a role model, a mentor, and a friend." Austin Barker
"Becoming a counselor was a wonderful experience for me. I took a chance and I'm glad that I did. Becoming a counselor gave me more confidence to be myself and opened me up as a person as I gained new experiences and met new people. I would like to say that when I look back on life there are two decisions I am so happy that I made: first, attending Texas A&M and second, becoming a part of Aggie Transition Camps."
